Also, choose visuals that match the audience you’re trying to reach on specific platforms. For example, on TikTok, consider creating a POV video, or on Instagram, consider a Reels video or Carousel post.

How to Deploy Your Social Media Campaign

Now that you’ve meticulously planned your social media campaign, it’s time to unleash it on the world! Here’s what you need to do to ensure a smooth deployment and maximize your impact:

  • Have all content organized and ready: Make sure all your content is created, edited, and ready before your launch date. This means having a calendar of scheduled posts that align with your campaign goals and target audience.
  • Choose a campaign duration: Timing is everything. Select a strategic launch date that aligns with your goals and target audience and an end date for your campaign to help you measure your results within a defined timeframe.
  • Equip your allies: Remember those allies you identified? Now’s the time to leverage their reach! Provide your partners and supporters with the tools. This could involve providing them with pre-written posts, prepared visual assets, and clear instructions.
  • Designate support staff: Launching a social media campaign requires ongoing monitoring and engagement. Designate a team member to be the point person responsible for posting content, tracking performance through analytics, and responding to comments and messages. This ensures your campaign stays on track and maximizes its impact.

Bringing it to Life: A Social Media Campaign in Practice

At the beginning of 2021, the Alameda County Healthcare Services Agency engaged us to help promote information (as well as misinformation) on COVID-19 vaccines and push Alameda County residents to get vaccinated.

We designed multiple social media campaigns to support this effort, including creating messaging and social media content and running a combination of social media ads each month. Here, we will focus on the campaign that promoted vaccinations to those most at risk, such as seniors, folks with underlying illnesses, and frontline workers.

Campaign Components

  1. Goal: Push Alameda County residents who are most at risk (seniors and those with underlying health issues) and frontline workers to get vaccinated.
  2. Audience: We knew the target audience but still needed to know more about these groups and where to find them online. We learned that Alameda County is one of the most diverse in the US in terms of spoken languages. Besides English, the top languages spoken are Spanish, Vietnamese & Chinese.
  3. Call to Action (CTA): Sign up to get vaccinated.
  4. Visuals: We designed social media graphics in ACHSA brand colors and used colorful illustrations of people that showcased diversity. We also translated the social media graphics from English to Spanish, Vietnamese, and Chinese.
  5. Messaging: We kept the messaging simple and straightforward and made sure the call to action was clear by including the “SIGN UP” text on the graphics and in the written posts with the link to the website.
    • We called out the specific target audience groups and let them know that:
    • Vaccines are available to them NOW
    • The vaccines are safe and effective
    • The vaccines are FREE
    • Immigrant status will not be requested to receive a vaccine.
  6. Allies: We created a social media toolkit to share with partner organizations to help us share.
    • The social media toolkit included the following content:
    • Written post content formatted to fit each social media platform’s requirements
    • Graphics to match the post content
    • Date to post
    • A link to the Alameda County Healthcare Services Agency website with the information on how and where to sign up for a vaccination
  7. Paid Advertisement: As part of this campaign, we ran ads for a month, measuring effectiveness through the number of website clicks or engagement (post likes, re-shares, or comments). The ads allowed us to specifically target our target audience by indicating zip codes, age, race, interests, and languages spoken.

The result?
