Media Relations Drives Statewide Visibility for California Parks Nonprofit

Our Client’s Goal

The California State Parks Foundation (CSPF) is a San Francisco-based organization dedicated to protecting and preserving California’s state parks for present and future generations. In 2024, CSPF partnered with Full Court Press Communications for the second consecutive year to elevate public awareness about the vital role state parks play in California’s communities. Their goal: to generate widespread media coverage that underscored the value of parks, from access to nature to the impacts of policy decisions made in Sacramento.

By highlighting how parks serve Californians and why they matter, CSPF sought to increase public support and foster civic engagement on behalf of the state park system.

Our Approach

To achieve this, FCP focused on a proactive media relations strategy, working closely with CSPF to conceptualize and launch their first-ever Best of California’s State Parks campaign, designed to spotlight standout destinations within the state park system. The campaign sought to engage Californians, broaden awareness, and introduce new audiences to the diversity and beauty of the parks in their backyard.

Our approach included:

  • Crafting a campaign narrative that positioned state parks as vital community assets.
  • Developing and distributing a press release that introduced the campaign and shared poll results.
  • Actively pitching to local and statewide news outlets to maximize visibility.
  • Coordinating with CSPF to amplify the campaign through their email and social channels, including vibrant Instagram and Facebook posts that highlighted the winners and encouraged community celebration.

The Results

The Best of California’s State Parks campaign was a resounding success. FCP secured hundreds of media clips across California, amplifying CSPF’s message and significantly increasing visibility for both individual parks and the statewide system.

This media attention helped CSPF inspire more Californians to explore and support state parks, raise awareness of how legislative decisions impact these places, and strengthen their position as a trusted voice in the conversation about the future of California’s natural spaces.

Notable media coverage included:

This strong mix of local and statewide media reached audiences from every corner of California, creating momentum for future environmental advocacy and engagement.
