Media Outreach Services
Since 1973, California Environmental Voters has released an annual analysis of where the state’s leaders stand on the environment and the climate. This assessment, known as the California Environmental Scorecard, grades the California State Legislature and Governor on their environmental and climate actions from the past legislative year. It is a key educational, transparency, and accountability resource for the state.
California Environmental Voters turned to FCP to help plan the roll-out and garner media coverage of the Environmental Scorecard announcement in 2020. The organization planned to announce its first-ever D grade for California and wanted to highlight the opportunity for the state’s leaders to do more on the climate crisis.
FCP crafted and executed a strategic rollout for the announcement, including organizing and hosting a virtual press event with members of the California Legislature. Over a dozen news outlets participated in the press event, including TV reporters from the Bay Area, Sacramento, and Los Angeles. This collaboration resulted in media coverage in Fox, ABC, KTLA, Sacramento Bee, CalMatters, Politico California Playbook, and more.
Thought Leadership PR Support
Over a series of years, FCP has worked with California Environmental Voters to place various opinion pieces focused on communicating their priorities and generating visibility with key audiences.
As part of this initiative, FCP has worked with the organization’s leadership and partners to place op-ed pieces in top-tier media outlets. These placements include collaborative features with musician Lance Bass and actor Ronen Rubenstein in Newsweek and placements for the organization’s CEO in the Sacramento Bee, CalMatters, The Desert Sun, and more.
Graphic Design Services & Event Branding
In 2021, California Environmental Voters (then California League of Conservation Voters) turned to FCP to help with an organizational rebrand. To meet this important moment, FCP first engaged in an information-gathering process with the organization’s leadership to understand the purpose of the rebrand. Then, from this process, FCP developed a new, comprehensive style guide for the organization, including a logo, color palette, and preferred fonts. The outcome is a clean and modern look that speaks to California Environmental Voters’ important work of electing environmental champions, advancing legislation, and holding policymakers accountable.
California Environmental Voters also engaged FCP to create new branding for the organization’s Badass in Green Awards. This annual gathering recognizes leaders and innovators in the climate justice movement. The organization wanted a new look and feel for the event that highlighted the celebratory nature of the event. FCP created branding for the event, including a new logo, a color scheme, and artwork that was used for event signage and to promote the event on social media.
Strategic Communications Management
Over the years, FCP has served as a trusted partner and strategic advisor to California Environmental Voters. This has included helping with strategy, messaging development, content creation, and media outreach on a variety of projects and initiatives. FCP also served as California Environmental Voters’ interim Communications Director for six months, overseeing the organization’s communications activities in support of legislative and political campaigns, day-to-day social media management, and ongoing communications strategy and implementation.
